Benjamin Netanyahu has been accused of attempting to deflect public anger around his handling of the pandemic by proposing cash handouts to all Israelis, as the country looked poised to impose fresh lockdown measures.

Following a second, more aggressive, surge in coronavirus infections, the cabinet met on Thursday evening to consider whether to implement new measures. Proposals included weekend lockdowns as well as shutting all kindergartens and gyms throughout the week, according to local media reports.
