Controversial figure will step down from role as Victorian branch secretary after 12 years

The powerful union boss John Setka has resigned as secretary of the Victorian branch of the CFMEU, claiming he had been the target of “ongoing false allegations” which had led to “malicious attacks” on the organisation.
Setka, a controversial figure at the head of the construction union, said in a statement that he would step down from the position he had held for 12 years. His resignation was immediate.
